Catch and Release Definition:
A billfish is considered caught when the leader is wound to the tip of the rod, or a team member touches the leader. Tagging the fish is not required for points. All billfish released or boated must be recorded on the Billfish Scorecard in the order they were caught. Scorecards must be signed by the Boat Captain confirming the details of the Billfish Scorecard. Detailed instructions are printed on the scorecard, and can be found in your Tournament Envelope. The winners of the Catch and Release division will be declared on Sunday night, at the closing of the tournament, by way of Billfish Scorecard. Videos will be checked the following day, Monday, October 8th for conformation, along with mandatory polygraph examination.
Video Recording Requirements:
- Teams must turn in videos of each Billfish released, with CLEAR shot of Tournament Identifier, which is included in your Team Bucket.
- At the end of the fight, BEFORE grabbing the leader, or having the leader wound to the tip of the rod, the video MUST go UNINTERUPTED, showing a CLEAR shot of the fish, the Tournament Identifier, and shot of the GPS date AND time. Earliest time will be used for tie-breakers.
- The Tournament Identifier will be the same for all days of the tournament.
- The video MUST show billfish species CLEARLY, and show the billfish being caught, by either a crew member touching the leader, or the leader wound to the rod tip. Please try to get AS MUCH video as you can and try to get as much footage of the billfish’s fins as you can, especially the dorsal and pectoral fins.
- Release points will be determined by Tournament Panel of experienced and knowledgeable fisherman on Monday, October. All decisions by the Tournament Panel are final and non-negotiable. If the billfish cannot be identified as either a Blue, White, Sail or Spear, it will not count towards release points, whatsoever, so PLEASE be sure to have a good camera operator, or operators, on hand, and knowledgeable of the requirements.
All fish must be weighed at Boshamps Seafood and Oyster House, and must be brought to the scales on the boat from which they were caught, no exceptions.
The scales will be open SATURDAY NIGHT ONLY from 4:00 pm – 9:30 pm. The weigh station will remain open on Saturday night until all fish are weighed, but all teams in line to weigh fish NEAR the 9:30 deadline MUST contact a Tournament Official to declare that they are in the harbor, in line at Boshamps, waiting to weigh a fish BEFORE the 9:30 deadline.
